AuDHD Assessment

Comprehensive Assessment for Autism and ADHD (AuDHD)

At Hornsby Kuringai Psychology, we understand that assessing for autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) requires an individualised and thorough approach. Our comprehensive assessment process is designed to evaluate each young person’s unique strengths and challenges, providing a clear understanding of their cognitive and behavioural profiles.

What to Expect During the AuDHD Assessment

1. Initial Consultation: The Autism and ADHD assessment begins with an initial parent only consultation at our Hornsby clinic or online, where we discuss your concerns and gather relevant background information. This includes developmental history, behavioural observations, and reviewing any previous assessments.

2. Standardised Assessments: We utilise a combination of standardised tests to evaluate cognitive functioning, social skills, and behavioural patterns. These assessments provide valuable insights into areas such as attention, executive functioning, and problem-solving abilities.

3. Cognitive Testing: A key component of our AuDHD evaluation is cognitive testing, which measures various aspects of intellectual functioning. This may include tasks assessing memory, reasoning, and processing speed. The results help us understand how cognitive strengths and weaknesses may impact daily functioning and learning.

4. Behavioural Questionnaires: We also use validated behavioural rating scales completed by parents, teachers, and the individual (when appropriate). These questionnaires provide a comprehensive view of behaviour across different settings, highlighting symptoms of ADHD and traits of autism.

5. Clinical Observations: Direct observation during the assessment allows us to gauge social interactions and behaviours in real-time, offering further insights into the individual's functioning.

6. Feedback Session: After the assessment, we will schedule a feedback session to discuss the results in detail. This includes a review of findings, recommendations for support and intervention, and any referrals to additional services if needed.
